Theauthor seeks to explore the role of organization in the society andthe community. The author explores the main objectives of a businessorganization and examines their relationship with the goal of caringfor the environment and handling society issues. Therefore, theauthor describes the relationship between the core objectives of thebusiness organization and the environment. Through the discussion,the author argues that business organizations have a responsibilityto be responsible to the environment and the society as anoperational role. According the author,thisis because the business operations depend on the environment and thesociety(San Diego University, n.d). Therefore,even if the environment and the society is not a core businessobjective, it is part of the responsibility of the organization.
Tosupport the argument, the author employs the use of opinions ofbusiness and world leaders. The author cites the world leaders in abit to express the idea that social responsibility is a core businessvalue that should be practiced by the responsible businessorganization. For instance, the author cites the expression byPresident Bush that companies should be socially responsible as partof their business practice and not as an extension of work (San DiegoUniversity, n.d). Secondly, the author uses cases to describepractical efforts by business organizations to be responsible to theenvironment and the society. For instance, the author describes thecase of Pfizer,Inc under the leadership of the Vice President Tom Kline and how heengaged in social work in low income needs (San Diego University,n.d).
Theoverall organization of the ideas and arguments as well as the pointsby the author is appropriate for the topic. The author’s argumentsare well presented through a combination of examples and cases inorder to point out the responsibility of business organizations tothe environment and the society. The author combines the ideas andthe discussions in a cohesive manner that presents a persuasiveargument that business organization need to be socially responsible.Through the argument, the author successfully presents a case forbusiness social responsibility as an important part of the valuesbusiness organization.
Theargument by the author is based on the assumption that businessorganizations benefit directly or indirectly from the socialresponsibility activities they engage in. While they do this forpromotion of corporate image, they sometimes may not benefit from theefforts to improve the environment or the society (SanDiego University, n.d).In addition, the author assumes that corporate organizations tend torespond to the needs of the society through the social responsibilityprograms. The author also assumes that business organizations can beinfluenced by the calls from influential leaders to start corporateresponsibility programs. According tothe author, businessorganizations have profits as their main concern (SanDiego University, n.d).Therefore, they only engage in programs that tend to place them in abetter position to make profits in the future.
Theauthor’s argument is convincing to provide the reader with theinsight about the role of business organizations in the betterment ofthe society. To convince the reader, the author forces the reader tothink about large multinationals by imagining the change in thesociety if the corporations invest in environmental cleanup programs. This presents the reader with a view of the difference that thebusiness organizations would make if they started corporateresponsibility programs. Through the argument, the author succeeds inexploring the role of business corporations if they took socialresponsibility as part of their core values.
