The social media has become animportant aspect of daily life in the modern world. It has evolvedinto an important means through people are able to share informationand technology (Couly, 2013). The technology is predominant among theyouths and young adults. Thus, it has an impact on all aspects oflife, including social interaction, business, religion and schooling(Hana &amp John, 2014).

Research question

Social media had an impact onall aspects of life. The research seeks to establish the positive andnegative impacts of social media in the society.

Rationale of the study

The use of technology such asinternet and online social media is inevitable. Therefore, it isimportant to identify the positive and negative impacts emergingtechnologies in the society (Junco, 2011). This will enable thesociety to reap the maximum benefits of the technology while avoidingthe negative consequences.

Background

Computer based technologieshave had a huge impacts on the modern world. The internet has enabledtimeless and borderless communication. The social media is one ofthe most important internet based technologies (Van Dijck, 2013).Since internet has become accessible in mobile phones, users ofsocial media are able to communicate at any time, anywhere around theworld. This new means of communication has both advantages anddisadvantages. One of the main criticisms of social media has beenthe amount of time individuals are spending online (Schoen et al,2013). However, there are numerous social and economical benefits.

Methods

Two methods will be used inthis research project. The major method will be an analysis ofprimary and secondary sources on how the social media affectdifferent aspects of the society. This will include information anddata from journal articles, interviews, books and news articles. Thesecond method will be the use of case study. This will be an in-depthinvestigation of the impacts of social media on a particular group ofpeople in the society. A group of student will be selected from thepopulation from which data and information will be collected.
