Arts integration is a process which calls for the application ofstrategies by the teachers and enormous work from the learners. Artsintegration has been viewed as an extremely crucial aspect in theelementary classroom. This is virtually on the basis of how it helpsthe learners to connect with the real world (Riley, 2012). It isabundantly clear from the article that the integration of artsrequires learners to be creative, patient, problem solvers, as wellas to bring together ideas and concepts that lead to a final standardanswer. It is evident from the article that each and every person hasa unique aspect such as dancing singing and drawing. These are viewedas essential elements in arts integration.

The author of the article clearly states that arts integration isbeneficial to both the teachers and the students. According to theauthor, learners connect to the real world through dance, music,drama and other forms of art. Arts integration involves the teachers,as well as he learners in the process. As a consequence, it is clearthat arts integration into elementary classroom is virtuallyimportant (Riley, 2012). Arts integration has also been seen as anextremely helpful tool since it ensures that the learners are takenthrough processes that bring products. The products are said to bericher in content and quality. Lastly, it is clear that the authorlargely focused on the advantages of arts integration in elementaryclassroom. He asserts that art helps learners to develop teamwork andalso to acquire analytical and research skills.

The article has explored the issue of arts integration deeply andthe role that art plays in connection learners’ daily activities tothe real world. Theunderlying theme of Olson (2015) article, AsJob Rate Rises, Older Workers Are Often Left Behind,is the rising unemployment rate among older workers. The articlepoints out that unemployment levels are decreasing, but this fact ismisleading for persons aged 55 years and over. In spite of this, ithas been mentioned that older workers can benefit by engagingthemselves in other occupations which are growing rapidly in thepresent time. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, suchoccupations encompass home health assistants, physician assistants,physical therapy assistants, as well as genetic counselors. However,such roles necessitate specialized training. Other projectedoccupations include translators and interpreters in courtroomstogether with other settings. They require individuals who areconversant with foreign languages. The availability of such jobs isbeneficial to older workers, who will not have to experience longerperiods of unemployment. It is so since they are brushed-off by manyemployers, who view them as being non-flexible, too aged and computerilliterate. To address such concerns, the Obama administrationinitiated a program to persuade both public and private organizationsto employ the long-term jobless workers. Another interesting thing isthat due to frustrations, the generation of older workers is changingits occupations and turning into self-employment by opening up theirown businesses. Through this, they are able to supplement theirretirement benefits and guarantee financial security.

The unwillingness of employers to employ suchworkers is a great concern as it results in financial insecurityamong this generation. Additionally, it has adverse effects to thewhole society considering that such workers can be a state burden.The article indicates that these people take long before securing ajob, and those who are lucky enough find themselves back in the laborforce. Putting this into consideration, it is important to reflect onwhether prospective employers deny job opportunities to older workersdue to their age, or fear to pay high wages that is consistent withtheir experience.

TheMost Troubling Thing

Despiteadequate work experience among the older workers, employers stilldeem them too old to take up the tasks. The article evidences casesof age bias whereby, individuals are treated unequally just becausethey are old. The majority of prospective employers prefer to hireyounger persons who would not demand high wages. Besides, those whohave stayed for too long without getting employment are also biased.. These workers are struggling to obtain a job after retirement orafter being laid off. This is extremely disturbing as it results inunnecessary discouragements, worries and frustrations. Out ofdisappointment driven by failure to obtain employment, some olderworkers have decided to leave the workforce entirely.

Althoughsome workers are lucky to obtain employment, such positions containfewer or no benefits. They are also paid minimum wages despite thembeing in the labor force for years. Recurring joblessness has afinancial toll. The article points out that staying long without ajob or receiving low wages undercuts financial security both in thepresent and in future.
