In essence, the process of boosting self-esteeminvolves overcoming the underlying factors that reduced the esteem ofthe affected person. Step1:Understanding whyone needsto changehabitsandthoughts

Theprocessof changinghabitsandthoughtsrequiresdiscipline.Discipline,in thiscase,canbe achievedby writingdown theimportantreasonsthat explainwhyone needsto changethoughtsandadoptqualityones.In addition,one must identifythetroubling situationsin orderto findconvincingreasonsto changehabitsandthoughts(Mayo Clinic, 2015). Someof thetroubling situationsmight includeworkpresentations,changeof rolesin one’s lifeorjob,andcrisisat theplaceof work.

Step2:Enlist support

Apersonwith lowself-esteemneedsthesupportof others in orderto overcomethetroubling issuesandundergotheprocessof changinghabitsandthoughts.Supportmay comefrom familymembers,membersof thecommunity,ora professionalcounselor(Ordonez, 2015). Peoplewith lowself-esteemmay not havetheskillsandthepowerto improvetheir esteem,which explainswhytheyneedsomeexternalhelp.

Step3:Using mantras andaffirmations

Thechangeof habitsandthoughtsis a processthat takestimebefore one acquiresa highself-esteem.Thetermmantras meanthata personintendingto enhanceself-esteemshould selectwordsthat havesomepsychologicalpower.Someof themosteffectivemantras includekeepyourheartandmindopen,goslowly,be easy,andbe yourrealself(Bernal, 2015). Associatingwith thenegativepeopleis among thefactorsthat contributetowards thelowesteem.To thisend,an individualwillingto enhanceself-esteemshould avoidpeoplewith negativehabitsandthoughtsin orderto facilitatethe fasterdevelopmentof self-esteem.Toachievethis,peoplewhoare in theprocessof enhancingtheir self-esteemshould filtertheir poolsof friendsandassociatewith thosewhoencouragethem to haveconfidencein lifeandavoidassociatingwith peoplewhodiscouragethem (Ordonez, 2015).Creatingsomedistancewith peoplewhodiscourageothers givesroomforhealthyrelationships.

Step7:Start helpingothers

Helpingotherpeoplewhoare in needcreatesan opportunityforpeoplewith lowself-esteemto seehowfortunatetheyare. Thisallowsthem to startappreciatingthemselves, which in turnhelpstheovercome,thenegativefactorsthat haveloweredtheir self-esteem.In addition,theactsof helpingotherpeoplewhoare in needincreaseone’sconfidencesince theycometo understandthattheyhavethecapacityto makea differencein life(Ordonez, 2015).

Step8:Trust something biggerthan one’s self

Peopledonot livealone,buttheyareconnected.Trustingone’s selfincreasesa feelingthatoneis insecure.Trustinga higherpower(suchas God orparents)helpsone feelthattheuniverseis givingtheaffectedpersona hand,which booststheir confidenceandself-esteem.

Theprocessof boostingone’s self-esteeminvolvesthechangeof habitsandthoughts.Thisprocessbeginswith thepersonwith lowself-esteem,whothenseeksforexternalassistancefrom professionalcounselors,familymembers,peers,orothermembersof thesociety.Althoughexternalsupportplaysa criticalrolein boostingself-esteem,theaffectedpersonshould taketheinitiativeandassumethemajorresponsibilities,suchas filteringthecircleof friends,usingmantras, practicinggratitude,focusingon thepresent,andhelpingotherpeoplein need.
