Pickto lightis a paperless methodof picking,puttingorsortingproducts.To useit,theoperatorlogs in thesystemandstartsby scanningthelabelsof thedifferentitems.Thescanner indicatesa lightshowingthequantitiesof therespectiveitems.EmployeesputItems with thesamedescriptionin thesamegroup.Thetotalnumberof similarquantitiesscannedappearson thescreenwith theadditionof a newitem.Whentheneedarises,theoperatorturnsoff thelightto confirmthetotalnumberof theitemin a carton.After eachcontainerreceivesthemaximumnumberof itemsrequired,themachineindicates“DONE” on thescreen.Themethodensuresuniformityof quantityin thepackaging containers(Bastian Solutions, 2013).

Pickto lighthas severaladvantagesthat makesitthechoiceof bigmanufacturingcompanieslike Amway. First,thesystemis accuratewhenitcomesto theexpectednumberof itemsin one carton.Whenever theoperatorintroducesa newitem,thesystemrecordsit,anditwarnshim/her upon reachingthelimit.On thesamenote,differentproductscannot findtheir wayin thesamecontainerbecauseitrecordseachbrandseparately.Secondly,usingthetechnology increasesproductivity.Thenumberof itemspackedthrough manuallaboris subjectthesizeof manpower(Bastian Solutions, 2013). Today,Amway can packup to 30,000 cartons,an achievementthat wasnot possibleduring themanualera.
