OrganizationalChange Management

Theimportance of change management cannot be understated as far as theprofitability and sustainability of a business entity is concerned.Indeed it is well acknowledged that business entities operate in apretty dynamic environment characterized by immense changes.Essentially, it becomes imperative that firms and organizationspersistently change so as to align their objectives and goals withthe requirements of the market. The success of this transition isoften subject to the capacity of the company to manage the changeeffectively.

AlexMacbeth

AlexMacbeth is an executive partner and CEO of Grant Thornton, LLP. Inhis interview, a question was posed on the structural changes thatwere being considered in his company. He stated that the company hadnot undergone any considerable governance modifications in the lastone decade. However, he was undertaking a review of the governancestructure since the board had two basic responsibilities includingrepresenting the partners in almost all aspects of partnership, aswell as outlining the vision or strategy of the firm. It isacknowledged that there are variations in the perspectives ofoutsiders and insiders, just as there are differences in the changesthat were occurring in the competitive environment and those thatwere taking place in the professional regulatory environment. Theinterests of the partners in a certain location may not necessarilybe the best for the entire firm in the long-term. Essentially,Macbeath has presented a paper seeking changes in governancestructure where the partners would still undertake the mandates andstill have some outside directors incorporated in the board so as tobring in a perspective from the environment where the firm practicesso as to allow for the establishment and realization of the vision.

PierreLafontaine

Lafontaineis the CEO and Head Coach for Swimming Canada. Perhaps the mostfundamental change initiative that he has been undertaking is thebringing of people together. This is aimed at eliminating a situationwhere the ten provinces still undertake their own little things andcompetition. Essentially, a lot more people are involved in thedecision-making and feel as if they are a component of the forwardmovement. This project was aimed at allowing individuals to feelproud that they can undertake the tasks and compete with anyoneacross the globe, which essentially empowers them to feel that theybelong. One of the most fundamental challenges or barriers to thechange initiative was the people’s mindsets. It is often incrediblydifficult to change individuals ideas pertaining to what should bedone, especially when they have always done it in another way albeitwith little or no success. Indeed, it may be acknowledged thatbringing to the fore the ideas of all the individuals andincorporating them in the plans may not be an easy thing.Nevertheless, the management of this change has allowed for immensepatience with the individuals concerned so as to allow for propercollaboration while having in mind the likes, preferences andaspirations of the parties or stakeholders of the sport in Canada.

HenryDamone

HenryDamone is the CEO of High Liner Foods Limited-Gateway Version. As animporter, the company seeks to have a high number of exports so as toallow for proper balance of trade. Perhaps one of the key challengesto his initiatives is the deficiency of political will. For instance, there is lack of political will to figure out the most effective andefficient way of using Halifax Port. The powers that be are incapableof collaborating and making this happen and instead chose to dividetheir efforts and have several ports that are operating belowcapacity. In addition, there is deficient transport network as seenin the fact that only a single train per day serves Halifax ratherthan having a dependable rail service. Further, the ports reimproperly located, seeing as the East Coast Ports are close to themajor population areas rather than the industrial heartland wherethey are needed.

Reflection

Undertakingthe change management project is, with no doubt, a comprehensive taskthat requires immense analytical capabilities. Nevertheless, itallows for the development of the research capabilities, which maythen be used not only within the course, but also in other subjectsin the academic life of an individual, as well as in the professionalworld. More often than not, the information that is being sought isnot clearly stated or outlined in the texts or materials provided(Paton&ampMcCalman, 2000).However, this assignment allows an individual to examine the materialprovided critically so as to derive information even when it is notdirectly or clearly outlined. Essentially, this assignment sharpensthe critical thinking faculties of an individual and allows him orher to have proper capabilities for undertaking research and analysisin the future. On the same note, it allows for the development ofwriting skills while taking into considerations the need for properreferencing and avoidance of plagiarism.
