3D Printing Affect Future Education


3D printing is theprocess of developing a three-dimensional solid objects from adigital life. This process is achieved using additive process.Therefore, it’s also known as Additive Manufacturing. In thisprocess, an object is made by laying down successive layers ofmaterial until the entire solid object is created. The layers can beseen as thin horizontal cross-sections of the object. The wholeprocess of making a 3-D solid object starts with making a virtualdesign if the object you want to create in a computer. CAD (ComputerAided Design), a 3D modeling program, is used to design the virtualmodel. A 3D scanner is used in making a 3D digital copy of an objectand puts it into the CAD.

3Dprinting is a very powerful force in education. It helps in makingconcepts, ideas, problems, and solutions far more tangible andcomprehensible by bringing objects to life and out of the boundariesof the 2D paper pages and images. As the costs of 3D printing drop,schools should adopt this technology, from elementary to University.Initiatives should be started by 3D printing businesses to spearhead,improve education, training, and accessibility, ultimately increasingthe pool of new students who comprehend the power of 3D printing.

My long term interest is the introduction of 3D printing programacademics. I was motivated by the desire of students to learn 3Dprinting in class. When children get to use&nbsp3D printers, theywill gain a mindset for better learning. This contributes to theirconfidence for design, growing their confidence and imagination. 3Dprinting is helpful because the students gain the ability to solvereal problems in the physical world. The shift in mindset, give thestudents the power to make objects that can change the environmentaround them, allowing them to solve problems. Thecourses will be delivered by the industry leading experts, who havewide experience designing in 3D printing as well as operating 3Dprinters. &nbspAcademy “lecturers” will work within the industryso as to gain skills that they will be able to teach. Students willalso have access and connection to the industry. This will lead toopportunities for employment the minute students graduate from therespective schools


Recentstudies have shown that few schools have adopted 3D printingtechnology in order to help make abstract subjects moreunderstandable to students, and to support students with alternativeunique learning styles. From mathematics to history, the introductionof 3D printing to this learning institutions help students, teachers,and the businesses that help to serve them. Therefore, in myproposal, I would want to push for more and more adoption of 3Dprinting technology in these schools. However, in implementing thisproposal, a few challenges will come into play, some of them are:

  • Lack of enough financial resources to purchase the 3D printers, the computers, the 3D scanners, and software package among other components.

  • Lack of enough capital to pay for the experts needed in training the lecturers and students as well.

  • Lack of sufficient computer literate experts and tutors to help students to acquire the necessary knowledge.

  • Lack of enough expertise in the 3D printing industry who will accept to come and share the skills to the students in schools.

  • Difficulty in integrating 3D printing program into the school curriculum, because it would take a longer time to establish such a teacher-3D printing-student relationship.

Various measureswould be undertaken to curb these challenges. They include:

  • Ensure that all stakeholders involved in this project have provided all the basic funds for the successful completion of the project. All maintenance costs are met.

  • Train as many as possible lecturers, instructors and tutors that impart the basic 3D printing skills to these students.

  • Create a realistic time frame that would satisfy the teacher-3D printing-student relationship.

This project willcommence immediately the proposal is accepted by the concernededucational stakeholders with the support of the government.


In the first place,I would research more information about this project, and then writethe project proposal in a detailed document. Research is veryessential, in that, it enables me to be more specific and certain ofwhat I want to do. Writing the project in drafts documentationensures that the idea will spread to all well-wishers and personsinterested in my proposal. I will try to deliver a ten page project.As soon as this proposal is accepted, I will immerse all my energy inextensive research. The research will be done in a random sample ofpublic schools. The students and teachers will give us their ideasabout the project, and so, this is the prime information that is socrucial in establishing the objective of the project and how to solveit ultimately.

I would employ several steps to carry out the project:

  • Obtain the total number of students who are aged from 10-19 and in the whole country.

  • Seek and obtain all the funds and support from the stakeholders.

  • Employ instructors and tutors to teach 3D printing skills to both students and teachers,

  • Establish a mutual relationship with the suppliers, so that our purchase would be made easier, and use these suppliers for system maintenance.

This project will be successful since all the required parties arecommitted to sustaining it up to the final stages.
